When you are moving to a new country, one of the main concerns that everybody has is health and medicine. Every residence of Denmark covered by the State Health Insurance, that said consulting the doctor and medical is free. On top of that, if you would like to consult private health care, it is possible to buy private healthcare insurance as well.
The Yellow Card is your medical card in Denmark. When you register at the International House, you’ll receive your yellow card in 2 weeks. On the top right corner, you can see which kommune you belong to and the kommune contact number. Within the yellow box, you can find your doctor’s name, address and contact number in the top section. The bottom section contains your CPR number, Full name, address, valid from date and the emergency number. If there is an emergency or you need medical attention outside your general practitioner’s office hours, you shall call this number and follow the instructions.
Patient Profile
You must register yourself before your first consultation with the GP. Your GP has an information website, and you have to find it by maybe calling your GP’s number. In my case, I googled and got it. If you have the NemID, you shall be able to register online. Otherwise, you shall call your doctor, make an appointment and do the username/password registration. Each family member including the children must have their own profile. Denmark takes privacy very seriously, and if you request any advice or any medical-related queries for any of the family members, you will not get an answer. So, it’s mandatory to create profiles for each family member online.
Through the online My Health (mithelbred) portal, you can manage the appointments and contact your GP for any medical queries. Alternatively, you can download the mithelbred app from either the Google Play Store or Apple App Store to your smartphone to access the portal. If you need to make an appointment for a child, you have to log in with their username and password to make that appointment. Otherwise, on the first visit to the doctor, they’ll probably use the appointment time to create the profiles for the kids and reschedule the appointment for another day. That’s what happened to us.
In case if your appointment is a few weeks away, you can still contact the GP either through the phone or the messaging feature in the mithelbred app. So, if you have kids or if your wife or you don’t have the NemId, it’s better to create the profile contacting the GP as soon as possible.
